Massive Mural Drawn Live Using Only Hands and Charcoal

.
Using only her fingers dipped in charcoal, american artist Judith Braun(67) created this incredible 48 ft x 12 ft (14.6 x 3.6 meters) mural live for the public over the course of three days. The piece was done on-site at theChrysler Museum of Art in Norfolk, Virginia.
The piece is titled Diamond Dust and is being exhibited until July 1st, 2012. It’s the largest site-specific project of Judith’s career.

.
Judith Braun has been involved in the New York art world since the early 1980s and her longstanding participation in the city’s emerging network of alternative art spaces is notable. Her career began and flourished in organizations such as Art in General, Artists Space, The Drawing Center, NurtureArt, and White Columns.
She finished her MFA degree at the University of at Albany in 1983 and, after moving to New York, participated in Democracy: Cultural Participation with the renowned collaborative, Group Material, composed of Julie Ault, Felix Gonzalez Torres, and Doug Ashford. In 1994, Marcia Tucker selected Braun’s work for the reputed Bad Girls Show at the New Museum, which has been credited as the first exhibition to explore the impact of third wave feminism on the visual arts.
Braun has shown and is currently represented by Fruit and Flower Deli, in Stockholm, and Galerie Conrads, in Düsseldorf. Later this year her work will be part of a group exhibition at the Indianapolis Museum of Art, and next year she’ll have a solo show at Causey Contemporary in Brooklyn. N.Y.

ROSE RED
by Patrick T. Reardon

I answer the door. The bear is there. He says, “Fear not.”
He is cold and wants a fire to sit by.
In he comes.

Snow White raises her eyebrow as we brush the snow off his fur.
We play with him. We tickle him. We cover his eyes with our small hands.

He leaves in the morning.

And comes back each night during that long winter.
Mother likes him.

“I must go away,” he says in summer. “A wicked dwarf is trying to steal my treasure.”

Some days later, my sister and I find the dwarf caught in a tree by his beard.
We cut the beard and free him. “My beautiful beard!” he yells.

All summer, we find the dwarf in one danger or another in the forest and save him.
He is always angry with us.

Now, he tells us the…

Incredible Body Paintings By Gesine Marwedel

Gesine Marwedel is a brilliant body painting artist based in Germany who creates both beautiful and terrifying pieces of art right on the models who serve as her living canvases.
Marwedel is a master of painting on and with the human form – she can either emphasize it to work with her painting, or eliminate it to let her painting shine through. In both cases, she creates beautiful art that melds together with the people it’s painted on.
These aren’t just pretty pictures – Marwedel also believes in the therapeutic qualities of art. She has even published a book exploring how body painting can be used as therapy.

What I love about Bosh, and what I love about Monica’s work is that there is an opportunity for the viewer to look for a long time, and then look again and continually see something they hadn’t seen before. It’s fascinating for me to go deep into these illustrations and look at the faces of all the tiny people, and to examine closely what they are doing, how they are interacting, or ignoring one another.
